Tyršův stadion
The gymnasium has been part of the city’s athletic stadium in Opava since the early 1960s. Based on an audit of the original building, including its structural shortcomings and current requirements for modern elite sports, we developed a clear concept for a new space for athletes, particularly for their winter training.

“The gymnasium was designed as a natural entrance for athletes arriving at the stadium. Once inside, they find their way to separate locker rooms with full facilities, before deciding between a gym session or the so-called ‘gateway of the pros’ leading onto Tyrš Stadium.”
– Jiří Řezák
The stadium’s original roof structure was adapted to meet modern regulations while keeping its original character intact by reinforcing the shorter side.
The building is composed of three distinct volumes, one of which – part of the covered running track – seems to float in the air. The delicate steel framework supporting it evokes a playful game of Mikado. The ground-floor facade comes alive with an asymmetrical rhythm of predominantly vertical windows.
The modern gym features a 60-meter covered running track, a long jump pit, pole vault facilities meeting official height standards, and a versatile floor suitable for ball games. Additional amenities include archery facilities, a fully equipped fitness area, and a judo room with tatami mats.
